Stained Glass Floor Lamp

With the right guidance, you can actually design your own stained glass floor lamp shade. This might be difficult for beginners, but as they get accustomed to it, it becomes more than just a hobby. The peculiar shape of the lamp shade makes it quite hard to design, and for this reason, it is much easier to design the simpler types first then advance later on. Beginners should not go for the folded patterns as they are hard to work with. Conversely, they can use simpler patterns from books.

Design a pattern on a large piece of glass then use a glass cutter to cut it out along the edges.  Rejoining the pieces should create a pattern along the joints. It is important to note that for a stained glass floor lamp, all the pieces usually join on one shot, but for the lamp shade each individual wall must be worked on differently. It is common for most of the lamp shades to have six walls joined together at the ends. After that you hoist them up.

Make sure the edges of the pieces are smooth when attaching the walls so that it is easy to join them together. Solder the pieces front and back rather than edgewise. Remember to melt away any accidental edge soldering. Fixing the walls together requires some precision because you will have to start afresh if any of the pieces breaks. Because of this you must have something for propping up the walls when conjoining them. You can use a wire for this and remove it when you are done.

The process in itself is not exactly one of the easiest things to do, but with time and practice, you get the hang of it and will be soon designing your own stained glass floor lamp shades.
